Description

Description

A multifaceted fragrance, Poivre Impérial delicately balances both warm and cool tones. It is composed around two opposing, totally unexpected ingredients: Pepper and Lotus Flower. How can two completely different ingredients blend so well together?

Warmed by a note of saffron, a duo of peppers (black pepper and Sichuan pepper) is galvanised by frankincense. This sacred resin accentuates its spiciness and adds substance. Top notes full of character! Behind this burst of spices, floral heart notes open up like the corollas of a lotus flower. Turkish rose, sourced from a certified fair trade For Life supplier, is combined with Indian jasmine to form the petals of a lotus that is truer than life. With some added aquatic notes, the flower seems to be floating delicately on the water.

Poivre Impérial is a delicate surprise.

Story

The inspiration behind Poivre Sacré and Poivre Impérial comes from one of our iconic historical fragrances, Poivre, launched in 1954. At the time, this scent left a lasting impression thanks to its original name and unique composition dominated by spice. It was an instant success, making pepper a must-have ingredient in CARON’s perfume palette.

Our perfumer Jean Jacques has always used this sometimes difficult ingredient in his creations. In Poivre Impérial, the black pepper is softened and lifted by the floral and lightly aquatic notes of lotus flower. This meeting of two contrasting aromas creates a stunning harmony with a false air of watercolour. Jean Jacques designed a Lotus flower accord as an ode to his travels to Asia, combining a transparent Turkish rose, sourced from a certified fair trade For Life supplier, with lightly fruity jasmine from India.

This contemporary composition is perfectly in keeping with the Maison’s other bold creations, as combining delicate lotus with powerful pepper is one of the most surprising olfactory adventures!

DID YOU KNOW?
Lotus flower is considered a sacred flower in many Asian cultures. Growing in the shade of ponds far from the sun’s rays, the lotus flower illuminates its surroundings with its sumptuous and colourful petals. A symbol of wisdom, lotus flower releases a delicate aroma that the perfumer has recreated using beautiful natural ingredients.

Light and woody

Undoubtedly woody and spicy, yet impressively refreshing, the aroma impacts the senses with a coolness reminiscent of menthol, bringing both an immediate chill and a swift dilation of the blood vessels. In this scent, pepper and lotus merge seamlessly, with the pepper distinctly prominent above the lotus. The peppery quality is particularly refined. On the skin, the fragrance develops a unique smoky character. Despite its woody nature, it carries a notably airy quality, as though the woody elements are buoyant, mingling effortlessly with the floral notes rather than waiting to reveal themselves during the dry down. About ten minutes after application, the initial scent is akin to opening an ancient, well-preserved wooden chest—likely the influence of guaiac wood. Following the initial surge of pepper, the spice gently subsides, allowing the pepper to blend subtly with the other rosy elements in Poivre Imperial.

Poivre sublimé

J’avais en mémoire un parfum de Caron que mon grand-père portait. Avec Poivre impérial, j’ai eu l’impression que « Combray, et toutes les maisons du village (etc…) » surgissait du flacon doré. Une merveille…
